A country level crossing

This was an entry for the March 2019 RMWeb Cakebox Challenge.

A small diorama, that would fit into a 8" x 8" x 6" cakebox, with upto 200 words description.

It tells the story of Bill, and why he waits at this special place.

Bill has been waiting for a train at the country crossing for all his life.

As a young lad, he waited for the loco to check the number. It was always one of the same three, but he didn’t mind. He noted it down in his book just the same. He’d wave to the driver and they’d blow the whistle.

As a young man, Bill would wait for the train to bring his sweetheart. Every weekend she’d make the journey along the line to the little halt. Bill would wait with his Mini Cooper, which he loved almost as much as Bet.  The old wall had been replaced by a new garage, hoping the planned increase in passengers would bring more business.

As an older man, Bill would wait for the train. Not for anything special, just nostalgia, remembering the days of train spotting and waiting for the love of his life. He still had the Mini, still lovingly cared for, looking as good as it did the day he bought it. The garage, though, had seen better days. Now closed and neglected, it wouldn’t be long before demolition.
